Welcome to my website. I’m a poet based in South Yorkshire and on this website you’ll find some of my poems, recordings and my blog. I am interested in writing about place and character, and try to find unusual ways of looking at my subject matter. ‘It is Mellor’s playful relationship with place that informs these poems, and the precision of her language, landscapes and narratives that pulls you in.’ Angelina Ayers, Antiphon, Summer 2012. ‘Each piece latches onto something core in her subject … Many of these poems are not in the business of making strange, but of revealing the strange that already sits there in the everyday.’ Noel Williams, Orbis, Aug. 2012.
I have an MA in Writing from Sheffield Hallam, and a PhD which I completed in 2003. My poems have appeared in magazines and anthologies including Brittle Star, Mslexia, The Rialto and Smiths Knoll. My pamphlet, Breathing Through Our Bones, was published in 2012, and was a winner in the Poetry Business pamphlet competition.
‘Poems with a real ability to own their subject – whether spontaneous combustion or the collective thought of geese – and which remain to intrigue long after reading’ – Carol Ann Duffy.
Good luck with the ‘Blog’ ….. Look after your dog (had to make a rhyme didn’t I.) Love, Legs Luther

Good to meet you yesterday, Julie. Such a good workshop for me. I learnt much, achieved much more than I had expected and met some lovely people at the same time.

Yes, it’s always good to share ideas – and Fay Musselwhite and Rob Hindle are excellent tutors, as well as excellent poets.
